A Message From Daniel Sokatch

Today, many of the Jewish members of the NIF community prepare for Yom Kippur – a day of intense contemplation and self-reflection. This process of self-examination, known as “heshbon ha-nefesh” (accounting of the soul) is meant to lead both to a renewed commitment to repair what is broken in our lives, and also to a recognition of what we are doing right.

This year, as the world waits and hopes that the current talks produce the peace that we all wish for, I ask that we in the NIF family take a moment to take stock of - and to recommit ourselves to - the work that still needs to be done to secure the vision of the Israel we believe in, an Israel that lives up to its founding principles  to be both a Jewish homeland and a shared society at peace with itself and its neighbors. At the same time, let’s celebrate what is good and beautiful about Israel, and the incredible work that is being done, every day, by countless Israelis and their supporters around the world, to realize the dream. Yes, these are challenging days for Israel and those of us who love it. But Israel is worth loving, and it is worth fighting for.
