Join us to learn about current pressing environmental issues in Israel. NIF welcomes Jay Shofet, Director of the Green Environment Fund (an NIF grantee) to speak on the presence of environmental consciousness in Israel’s social protest movement, current ecological issues the country faces, and how Israeli innovators are spurring sustainable development techniques to combat challenges across the globe.
The Green Environment Fund’s mission is to promote environmental sustainability through equitable, responsible and comprehensive environmental policies and actions, which benefit all sectors of Israeli society. Among other achievements, the GEF has most recently been fundamental in dramatically reshaping the Israeli government’s harmful Planning Reform Bill, championing the safety and rights of Israel’s environment and public.
About the speaker: Jay Shofet is the Director of the Green Environment Fund, a unique consortium of funders guided by Jewish and humanitarian values and partnered with NIF. Prior to his work with the GEF, Jay served as the Director of the Religious Pluralism Project and of Resource Development Consultation at SHATIL, the New Israel Fund's Empowerment and Training Center for social change organizations in Israel. He recently finished a third term on the executive board for the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism.
This program is being presented in partnership with the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Israel Center of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties.
