Israela Oron is an analyst and commentator on Israeli security and strategic affairs, with a broad background on gender issues. Serving in the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), Oron broke through numerous gender barriers. She was the first woman IDF deputy spokesperson, the first woman who served on the faculty of the National Defense College and, as commander of the IDF's Women's Corp, she initiated significant reforms for women in the IDF and in Israel. She has also served as deputy national security advisor at Israel's National Security Council.
Oron will speak about the impact of religious extremism on gender equality, democratic values and the Israeli military.
She currently serves on The New Israel Fund International Council, as well as other leading social justice and peace organizations.
