As Israel marked the fifth anniversary of Gilad Shalit's captivity in Gaza, twelve human rights organizations, most of them members of the NIF family, published a declaration demanding the release of the Israeli corporal.

Headlined "Put an end to the inhuman and illegal treatment of Gilad Shalit," the declaration demanded that Hamas release the young Israeli. The declaration also demanded that if he is not released, Hamas should at least allow him contact with his family and the International Red Cross.

The 12 organizations signed on to the declaration included NIF grantees Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), Bimkom Planners for Planning Rights, B'Tselem, the Israel Information center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, and the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel.
